Memorial Day

It's Memorial Day in the US. The day we officially kick off summer and the barbecue/picnic season. But let us not forget that this day holds much more meaning. It's a solemn day of remembrance for those that have served our nation and now rest in peace.

When I was growing up, we not only took the time to pay tribute to veterans but also to our dearly departed loved ones. A yearly trip to the cemetery to place flowers and a moment to remember and reflect. I don't know if it is a regional thing, but I do know we were never the only ones. Grave sites would be overflowing with beautiful flowers. But of course, this was in the day when cemeteries were not constructed for the ease of care, but that's another topic for another time. My parents still follow this tradition, planting flowers on their parents' graves, no matter the inconvenience as they age.

Enjoy the Holiday and take a moment to remember.
