Well, when I first read this last week, I thought "no way is it legit". But it's been confirmed. Starbucks Memo as reported at Starbucks Gossip.
The first espresso I had was Starbucks. In fact, I didn't even like the smell of coffee until I started frequenting a Starbucks with Mike in Seattle. It wasn't long before the aromas started to infiltrate my brain with pleasant thoughts. Watching a Barista at work would fill me with awe as they danced around the machine. It truly was an experience. A good Barista could remember many orders without ever writing them down. None of this computer screen with all the drinks listed just like at a fast food restaurant. I never minded waiting for my coffee when they were busy. It was such an experience, to linger in the store. A store where often, my drink order would be remembered. I can't tell you the last time my drink was remembered and I rarely order something different and I do recognize the Barista. Oh, and one of the biggest changes, the 10 second shot rule. If your espresso sat for more than 10 seconds, a fresh shot was to be pulled. It was such a part of their philosophy to serve only the best tasting coffee that this rule was printed on the side of their paper cups. How difficult would it be to reinstate that simple policy with all the automated machinery being used?
Yesterday, I declined a trip out for coffee thinking it would just be a Starbucks drive-thru. When in search of an espresso machine to replace my aged one, I chose a model where I grind my beans, determine the proper amount of grind and tamping pressure. It's a ritual that brings me much pleasure and takes me back to those early days, when I was first learning the pleasure of a good cup of coffee.
Today, after we shovel out of our snow (and icy mix), I think we'll head to Conscious Cup and try a local experience. Here's to hoping I won't be disappointed (but they do create latte art).

was it good? i hope so.
there is something inherently social and relaxing at the same time about a place like starbuck's. i'm very glad they serve a mean chai tea (both hot and iced) as well. now i don't feel so left out. ;-)
what kind of machine did you get? i know you'll love it!
Never made it.... that's just another one of those things.....
