Beauty

Life is busy this summer but not so busy that I didn't notice this beautiful sunset. We've been busy with summer fun and now it's time to think about back to school shopping. We're still going to squeeze in two more college visits before school starts next month. It is hard to believe that July is almost over.

New Beginnings

What is it about the New Year that holds such fascination? One year ending, a new beginning. A chance to perhaps better ourselves, be the person we want to be, set goals. Each day, though, is an ending that brings with it a new beginning.

Resolutions, not really, but I do wish to make each day a beautiful and wonderful experience. To learn from both the good and even more from the tragic events that are sure to happen. Remembering that even my mistakes hold wisdom (and I make a lot of mistakes). And to remember that each day brings with it an ending and a new beginning. Each day brings that fresh start. No need to wait until a year ends to begin anew.

After a day of dark and gloom, the sky lit up and set the little pond on fire.

Good Night

Last Friday, the day after Thanksgiving was just beautiful. I spent most of the day avoiding malls and shops of all kinds (except Starbucks). The evening presented this beautiful, golden sunset. I wish this photo could do justice to how sparkly this scene really was.

This is the world I live in

No ocean for the sun to drop into, setting the world ablaze. No mountain range nor lighthouse. So often, I would look at a beautiful sunset, sigh heavily, and say to myself "too bad it's not over the ocean" or something similar. In doing so, I've been cheating myself out of truly enjoying that moment. Watching the sky turn brilliant colors, the sun setting the damp pavement on fire last evening, I decided no more. This is the world I live in and it offers it's own beauty. Why try to pretend it's something it's not. While more and more of the natural settings are becoming shopping centers, I must learn to accept and see beyond or be miserable. I choose to see, live and experience the moment and not be miserable.

Standing on top of the cliffs at La Jolla with a very heavy marine layer. Who said it never rains in Southern California? Well, it does even in August (rare but it does).

Lorain Lighthouse

My never ending quest to photograph this lighthouse in a new "light". Taken from one of the many fishing piers located near Hot Waters in Lorain.

Peaceful Easy Feeling

I am continually drawn to this lighthouse. Each time I visit "home", I try to make a trip to the waterfront and pay my respects. On this day, I had a wide angle lens and while the lighthouse is visible as a blip on the horizon, the soft hues of the sky speak as to why I love this spot. Even with all the people around, some fishing, walking their dogs, taking out their boats or just out for an evening stroll, it is still a peaceful place. I'm sure many people have special places they like to visit over and over (not just Starbucks——that's another entry for another time).

There are places of extreme beauty, where the overwhelming sense of nature flows all around, a tangible expression of peace and energy to those open to the experience. While the waterfront along the shores of Lake Erie in Lorain doesn't necessarily qualify as beautiful, I still find myself there to find that peaceful easy feeling, with a lighthouse, wide expanse of water and sky meeting along the horizon blending into eternity.
