Basilica of the Sacred Heart

I'm a bit tired. Spent yesterday driving to Notre Dame to drop off Megan at a basketball camp. Traffic was a nightmare so after registering and making sure she was settled, we wandered the grounds of Notre Dame. The Basilica was built in 1871 and I have to tell you it's beautiful. A wonderful place to unwind after the traffic of Chicagoland.

On our last visit to Notre Dame, it was winter and very bleak. I can understand how the founding Father could confuse two lakes for one. The university's official name, University of Notre Dame du Lac, translating to Our Lady of the Lake. One day, I will have to find the lakes.

Saturday, on our return to Notre Dame, we are going to try to get back inside the Basilica, time permitting. The inside is a feast for the eyes and a rest haven for the heart and soul. I did take a few photos and here is one. When I am a bit more awake, I'll share some of the history of the Basilica and it's artwork.

For now, I need coffee. Happy Friday!
